RESUMEN del PROYECTO: (Máximo 200 palabras)

Durante el transcurso del presente plan, se propone efectuar un estudio petrogenéticogeocronológico de las rocas volcánicas del Neógeno-Cuaternario aflorantes en el este de Payenia con centro en la sierra del Nevado, provincia de Mendoza. Las rocas que conforman el edificio principal del volcán Nevado tienen características petrológicas comparables con rocas del arco volcánico, pero al estar situadas a más de 400 km al este del frente se generan interrogantes acerca de los mecanismos de generación de los magmas que las originaron. Algunos de estos interrogantes se intentarán resolver durante el desarrollo de este proyecto. La primera parte del trabajo consistirá en el relevamiento de campo y en la caracterización petrográfica-geoquímica de las rocas. En la segunda parte se realizarán estudios geocronológicos y geoquímicos de detalle con el fin de establecer un ordenamiento cronoestratigráfico para estas unidades y contrastar la hipótesis de trabajo de petrogénesis de los magmas a partir de fusión de manto hidratado en dos etapas y dos profundidades.

ABSTRACT

During this plan, it is proposed to carry out a petrogenetic-geochronological study of the NeogeneQuaternary volcanic rocks outcropping in the east of Payenia with center in the Sierra del Nevado, Mendoza province. The rocks that make up the main edifice of the Nevado volcano have petrological characteristics comparable to volcanic-arc rocks, but being located more than 400 km east of the front, questions are generated about the mechanisms of generation of the magmas that originated them. Some of these questions will be addressed during the development of this project. The first part of the work will consist of the field survey and the petrographic-geochemical characterization of the rocks. In the second part, detailed geochronological and geochemical studies will be carried out in order to establish a chronostratigraphic arrangement for these units and to contrast the working hypothesis about the magmas petrogenesis, based on hydrated mantle fusion in two stages and two depths.
